Joe Garcia, President, National Congress of American Indians
Joe Garcia is the President of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), the largest national Indian organization representing over 250 member Tribal Nations from the United States. Actively involved in NCAI since 1995, Joe Garcia served two, two-year terms as the 1st Vice President of NCAI prior to being elected President in November 2005. Garcia recently completed his 3rd term as Governor of Ohkay Owingeh (formally San Juan Pueblo). After his term as Governor he was elected as Chairman of the All Indian Pueblo Council (AIPC), the organization that was formed in 1598 and serves the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico. Dr. Van Romero, Vice President of Research & Economic Development, New Mexico Tech
Since 1997, Dr. Romero has held the position of Vice President and serves as chief official of the Research and Economic Development Division. He is responsible for the encouragement, leadership, and support of research at Tech and for the administrative and policy making activities of the division. Dr. Romero also offers dynamic research and administrative leadership to stimulate, coordinate, and provide support for the research at Tech. He also serves as mentor to new faculty to help them establish their research programs. Michaella Gorospe (Santa Domingo Pueblo), Environmental Engineer, Peabody Energy

Peabody Energy is the largest coal company in the world and operates two surface coal mines in NM. Gorospe handles environmental compliance issues for Peabody Energy's Lee Ranch and El Segundo Mines, including permits, licenses, designs, and fieldwork.
Cheyenne Hollow Horn (Navajo), Electrical Engineer, US Army Corps of Engineers
New Mexico Tech Alumni, former chapter treasurer
The US Army Corps of Engineers plans, designs, builds, and manages a wide variety of projects for national, economic, and environmental security. As an Electrical Engineer, Hollow Horn designs power and communications systems for government installations.
Josh Lucio (Zuni Pueblo), Education Coordinator, Zuni Education & Career Development Center

Zuni Education and Career Development Center is a one-stop service environment of nine integrated programs that assist individuals, families, and the community. As Education Coordinator, Lucio strives to aid students and others in most areas of education such as admission, financial assistance, classroom training, adult education, and other areas.
Shaun Tsabetsaye (Zuni Pueblo), Manufacturing & Process Engineer, Intel Corporation
University of New Mexico Alumni, former chapter president and National Student Representative
Tsabetsaye works at Intel Corporation as an engineer developing world class semiconductor products. Working alongside international colleagues, he leads various process improvement teams and projects.
Jessica Tsabetsaye (Zuni Pueblo), Science Instructor at Zuni High School, Teach For America
University of New Mexico Alumni, former chapter president and treasurer
Tsabetsaye teaches Physical Science to all grade levels at Zuni High School.
She also assists with after school tutoring and other developmental teams to improve the structure of the school.
Julianne Newmark, PhD, Assistant Professor of English, New Mexico Tech
Julianne Newmark is an Assistant Professor at New Mexico Tech, in Socorro, New Mexico, where she teaches Native American literature, American literature, writing, and technical communication courses. She also serves as NMT's Composition Coordinator. Newmark received her Ph.D. from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where she also held a Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in the Honors Program. Having been raised in New Mexico, Newmark relishes the opportunity to serve the students of the Land of Enchantment as a teacher and scholar. When she is not teaching students in the classroom, sitting with students in her office, or seeking out ways to enhance student learning within the university, Julianne devotes herself to ballet, cooking, the Detroit Tigers, and her family's German Shorthair pointers. Eileen V. Ryan, PhD, Project Scientist/Manager- 2.4-meter Telescope, Magdalena Ridge Observatory
Dr. Ryan is currently a Research Scientist and Adjunct Faculty at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology for the Magdalena Ridge Observatory Project. There Dr. Ryan serves as the Project Scientist and Project Manager of the 2.4-meter Telescope initiative. Previously, she was a tenured member of the Physics faculty at New Mexico Highlands University, and a Research Scientist affiliated with the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Arizona, Tucson, in 1992. She also has a M.S. degree in Astronomy from New Mexico State University, and a B.A. in Physics from Rutgers University. Her research work includes theoretical and experimental studies of small body collisions in the solar system, microbe survivability during collision events, and telescopic observations of asteroids.
Chelsea P. Buffington, Director of Career Services, NMT
Ms. Buffington received her bachelor’s of History and Political Science at Ohio Wesleyan and her graduate degree in history and scholarly publishing at Arizona State University. She has a background in journalism and publishing.
