AISES Alumni Panel Discussion: As a way to unite our former AISES members, this year’s conference will feature a discussion with some of AISES' prominent alumni students. As professionals now, five alumni panelist (two from NMT) will discuss how they benefitted from being an AISES member. This is a great opportunity for conference attendees, specifically students, to gain insight into the ways they too can benefit by being an AISES member.
Career Fair: This year's 2008 Region 3 Conference will feature a career fair for AISES members and NMT Students. In addition, participants at the NM State Science and Engineering Fair are invited to attend. The career fair is hoped to bring company recruiters from around the Four Corners area. At the beginning of the day, conference attendees will have the opportunity to be the first to meet with recruiters. Then, the afternoon session will allow for any interested students to attend.
Campus Tour: Take a tour of New Mexico Tech campus and discover for yourself why Tech is one of America’s best selling colleges. The tour will take you through the campus and show you some of our fine research facilities and extra-curricular areas. If you are interested, please assemble outside the Macey Center on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 3:00.
EMRTC Demo: The Energetic Materials Research and Testing Center (EMRTC) is a division of New Mexico Tech. As a research division of Tech, EMRTC’s focus is the fundamental and applied research of energetic materials. The testing center is internationally recognized with over fifty years of expertise in explosives research and testing. During the conference, attendees will be able to experience first hand the research conducted at EMRTC. The Center will demonstrate a type of explosion as a part of Friday morning’s activities. These explosions are one of the most exciting events to take place around Socorro. During this activity, a bus will pick up the first 40 registered students at the Macey Center parking lot, promptly at 9:00 AM, Friday, April 3, 2008.
Engineering Competition: As in the past, this year’s conference will feature an engineering competition between chapters. This event will test the engineering skills of students and provide an opportunity for chapters to highlight their skills. Attendees will be informed of the competition during the opening banquet on Thursday, April 3, 2008. Each chapter will have two days to assemble their project and test their project on Saturday morning.
Entertainment: On Thursday evening, as a part of New Mexico Tech’s own Dodge Ball Club, conference attendees are invited to attend an evening of fun playing dodge ball. No equipment or special dress is required and everyone is welcomed! For Friday, a special Native American dance group will be providing a performance at the Macey Center Theater. During this event, everyone is welcome but AISES conference attendees will have reserved seating.
